인상파들이 주로 활동하고 그림을 그렸던 장소를 찾아가 사진을 찍어 인상파 화가들의 작품과 비교하며 알려준다. 인상파 화가들이 그린 그림의 장소가 현재 어떻게 변화가 되었는지 알려주고 그림을 그릴 당시 작가의 상황과 어떤 감정으로 그렸을지 알려주면서 현재 그 장소는 어떤 사람들이 있고 그림과 다른 면에 대해 사진으로 알려준다. 꽤 신선한 시도로 읽힌다. 늘 그림만으로 보던 장소가 사진으로 현대 모습을 보여주고 있으니 작품을 보다 잘 알기위해 여행을 떠난 느낌도 든다.

<인상파 그림 여행>의 첫 그림이었던 모네의 <트루빌의 판잣길>을 페이지 넘기자마자 내 시야에 들어왔을 때 '와! 이게 인상파구나!'라는 느낌이 꽤 강렬했다. 화면의 3분의 2가 밝은 톤의 하늘에 구름이 함께 곁들여진 그림인데 육지부분도 화이트톤으로 치장되어 있어 이렇게 작가가 의도적으로 작품을 만들어 당시의 느낌을 알려준다는 판단이 들었다. 그 이후 작품들도 저절로 의도적으로 하늘과 육지의 비율을 작가에 따라 달리 배치한다는 느낌이 들어 더더욱 인상적으로 처음 본 작품이다.

다른 미술책에 비해서는 재미 측면에서는 다소 덜했다. 아무래도 계속 인상파의 그림들만 소개하고 책은 순수하게 인상파의 그림을 설명하는 것이 아니라 저자의 여행기와 함께 결부되다보니 여행적인 이야기가 나에게는 재미있을때도 있었지만 재미없는 부분도 있었다. 그래도, 인상파에 대해 이렇게 집중적으로 그림의 현재 장면과 함께 비교하며 그림을 감상할 수 있어 아주 색달랐다. 그나저나 언제 미술관을 봐서 직접 보려나..
