모빌 슈트 건담 디 오리진

아마도 건담이라는 애니나 만화를 본 사람은 드물어도

건담이라는 캐릭터를 모르는 사람은 거의 없지 않을까한다.

그것도 나와 비슷한 세대가 건담을 모른다고 하면

솔직히 이야기해서 도대체 사춘기 때 뭘하며 살았는지 궁금하다.

건담은 워낙 시리즈가 많고 파생된 시리즈도 꽤 된다.

워낙 많은 시리즈가 있다보니 이제는 그저 건담이 나오고

그에 따라 다양한 내용이 이어지는 걸 자연스럽게 보게 되었다.

최초의 건담이 바로 이 책인 <모빌 슈트 건담 디 오리진>이다.

최초의 건담 탄생기부터

필생의 라이벌인 아무로와 붉은혜성 샤아의 대결까지.

건담이 처음부터 나오는 내용이니 정말 재미있다.

생각해보면 예전에는 - 비록 일본애니긴 해도 - 이런 작품이 많았다.

우주를 배경으로 전체주의 국가가 - 정확히는 집단 - 등장한다.

거기에 군함과 로봇이 나오며 전략과 전술을 보여준다.

<은하영웅전설>은 당시에는 전설이나 마찬가지였다.

소설과 달리 건담이 바로 애니메이션에서는 그 역할을 했다.

이 책의 추천사를 쓴 안노 히데아키는 <이반게리온>으로

일본 거대 로봇의 최전성기와 마지막을 장식한 인물이라 할 수 있다.

비록 이 만화의 1편만 읽고 리뷰를 쓰지만

역시나 'Oldies but Goodies'가 확실하다.

이런 작품은 아마도 다시는 나오지 못할 듯하다.

현재는 비슷한 작품도 나오지 않고 있으며 시대가 달라지며 이런 류는 쓰거나 만들지도 않는다.

혹시나 추억에 젖은 분들에게 이 책은 완전히 딱이다.

나도 거짓말 보태 침 묻혀가며 읽었다.

엄청나게 긴 시리즈라 두렵지만 끝까지 다시 읽어야겠다.
