Namgoong Min and Jeon Yeo-bin portray a heartbreaking romance in “Our Movie”

Namgoong Min, the “king of ratings,” has returned with a new drama. Just hearing his name is enough to raise expectations for the show. The work he has chosen this time is Our Movie, and the news that he will be acting alongside the talented actress Jeon Yeo-bin has attracted the attention of countless drama fans even before the broadcast. The power of the actor Namgoong Min is not limited to his popularity. His list of works is synonymous with success, and Our Movie is also expected to be another drama that viewers can trust.

Namgoong Min's filmography clearly demonstrates how carefully he chooses his works. As a top-tier leading actor who only appears in one or two works a year, he has consistently surpassed public expectations with his box office success. This would be impossible without not only his acting skills but also his exceptional insight into the entire work. His consecutive successes are by no means a coincidence, and his carefully selected work, Our Movie, is sure to not disappoint viewers.

The drama had a somewhat modest start, with a viewership rating of 4.2% for the first episode, the lowest starting point for an SBS drama in the past year. However, it is too early to be disappointed by these figures. Namgoong Min's previous hit drama, “Inyeon,” also started with relatively low ratings, but as the episodes progressed, it gained word-of-mouth popularity and eventually achieved explosive popularity to the point of being called a “syndrome.” “Our Movie” is also likely to have the potential to overcome its slow start and gradually capture the hearts of viewers.
Unlike the recent trend in the drama market, which focuses on lighthearted and cheerful romantic comedies, *Our Movie* follows the path of a traditional melodrama. This is both the work's unique charm and its distinguishing feature. Especially from the first episode, it hints at the protagonist's fate and the ultimate direction of the story, promising not a lighthearted love story but one that delivers a heavy emotional tone and a deep aftertaste. The story of two people rushing toward a predetermined ending will bring viewers even more poignant and heartfelt emotions.
Namgoong Min plays the male lead, Lee Jae-ha, a film director with a complicated past. He made a spectacular debut with his first film, which attracted 5 million viewers, but coincidentally, on the day of the film's release, he received news of his father's death, who was also a film director. During the five years that followed, he did not release a single film. Whether it was due to the pressure of his initial success or the deep trauma related to his father's death, the truth behind his hiatus remains shrouded in mystery.
Lee Jae-ha, who had been living as if forgotten by the world, decides to re-emerge into the world through his father's unfinished work, “White Love.” Upon hearing that a director he had always disliked was planning to remake his father's work, he decides to take up the megaphone himself to stop it. This is not only an attempt to protect his father's work but also his first step toward confronting his past wounds head-on and reclaiming his life as a director.
A mysterious woman named “Idaeum” (played by Jeon Yeo-bin) suddenly appears in Lee Jae-ha's tightly closed world. She seems to cross his path like fate, and her true identity is completely unknown. She always carries a camera and takes pictures of something, goes to movie theaters, and sometimes shows up at funerals and casually eats meals. Her unpredictable behavior stimulates Lee Jae-ha's curiosity and brings the two together.
While preparing for the remake of “White Love,” Lee Jae-ha seeks advice on a character with a terminal illness. At that moment, Lee Da-eum appears as if by magic and confesses that she is living with a terminal illness. Lee Jae-ha cannot hide his confusion at her sudden confession, but this fateful encounter becomes a decisive turning point in the direction of the film and the relationship between the two.
In fact, she was an aspiring actress who had deliberately approached Lee Hae-ja to participate in the audition for the work she had always admired, “White Love.” For her, who had been diagnosed with a terminal illness, acting was her last challenge and dream, risking her life. Despite knowing how difficult it was to balance treatment and acting, she wanted to burn her last moments in the movie.
Our Movie stimulates viewers' emotions with its beautiful imagery, reminiscent of a watercolor painting, and its calm yet profound storyline, typical of a traditional melodrama. It excludes unnecessary comic elements and provocative settings, and increases the level of immersion by closely following the emotional arcs of the two main characters.
