어느 분의 글을 통해 천명관이라는 작가가 대단한 이야기꾼이라는 이야기를 들었다. 그리하여 그의 소설을 읽게 되었다. 그 분이 이야기한 책은 '고래'였는데 내가 택한 책은 '고령화 가족'이였다. 고래를 읽고 싶었으나 있는 책이 고령화가족이라 고령화 가족을 읽게 되었다. 읽고나서 재미있었다. 그 당시에 막 박민규의 소설들도 읽으며 현대 남자 작가들의 소설도 재미있다는 것을 알게되었다. 단 두명을 통한 통계의 오류일 수 있어도 의도하지 않게 주로 한국 현대소설은 여자 작가들의 소설들만 읽었기 때문이다.
